Guiding principles - Financial compensation for research in partnership with patients and the public

This document is intended for researchers, clinicians, decision-makers, patients and members of the public involved in a partnership approach with patients and the public in the Unité de soutien SSA du Québec. The purpose of this document is to provide a framework for the financial compensation of patient partners and members of the public who act as partners in research projects supported by the Unité de soutien SSA du Québec, including governance, development of research priorities, participation as a member of a research team, and teaching. To ensure the fair financial compensation of patient partners and members of the public, the Unité de soutien SSA du Québec has established guiding principles for the financial compensation of patient partners (hereinafter called “guiding principles”). The executive and scientific management of the Unité de soutien SSA du Québec adopted the guiding principles on May 16, 2018, and has been processing applications for financial compensation as of that date. The guiding principles will be subject to annual reviews. The guiding principles reflect the objectives of the Unité de soutien SSA du Québec in terms of creating sustainable, long-term resources for the partnership strategy with patients and the public.
