Although antipsychotics are often prescribed to manage responsive behaviours associated with dementia, there are many potential risks associated with inappropriate antipsychotic use for those without a diagnosis of psychosis. Person-centred care strategies are often a safer alternative to address the root causes of responsive behaviours and improve the experience of care for residents, care partners and providers.

The Appropriate Use of Antipsychotics (AUA) approach has been proven to successfully reduce antipsychotic use in residents in long-term care homes by supporting person-centred care. Focusing on the individual experiences and needs of residents living with dementia can improve quality of life and reduce responsive behaviours.
In this webinar, participants will explore how shifting our thinking can change the experience for everyone involved in delivering and receiving care. Learn about helpful tools you can apply, such as care team huddles and behaviour tracking, to promote person-centred care.
